KONE INDIA LEADER: SLOW PANDEMIC RECOVERY HURTING VT
Amit Gossain, managing director of KONE India, says the nation's vertical-transportation (VT) industry is being hampered by the real estate industry's slow recovery from the pandemic, The Hindu reported on November 21. "We haven't come back to our pre-COVID-19 levels," Gossain said. "We are at about 65-70%. Real estate is taking its own time and going slow." He added that 2020 will be a year of negative growth for the VT industry, as real estate is a key client. Gossain said KONE is reducing capital expenditures for 2020 and 2021, though the amount "will be decided later." He sounded an optimistic note, however, saying, "we do think that the real estate industry will have a faster recovery than most people expect." Regarding India's emergence as a hub for R&D, Gossain said the country's nine technology-development centers support the "development of future KONE solutions."
